Jakarta, Kompas - Intensitas serangan hama sedang dan akan terus mengganggu tanaman pangan. Ujung-ujungnya, ketahanan pangan nasional terancam. Ironisnya, pemerintah belum serius menyiapkan strategi adaptasi dampak perubahan iklim tersebut.
”Serangan hama dan penyakit pada tanaman padi sampai pada tingkat membahayakan. Kalau tidak ada langkah realistik, kita bisa terlambat mengatasi sehingga bisa mengganggu ketahanan pangan nasional,” kata Ketua II Komisi Perlindungan Tanaman Nasional yang juga Guru Besar Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Gadjah Mada Andi Trisyono, Kamis (24/2).[read]

The Department of Energy said on Thursday it has approved $96.8 million in loan aid for a power plant project in Oregon sponsored by U.S. Geothermal Inc.The loan guarantee will help build a 23-megawatt geothermal power plant known as Neal Hot Springs.[read]

Australia's government launched a third attempt on Thursday to make carbon polluters pay for their emissions, unveiling plans for a fixed-price scheme from 2012 and vowing not to surrender this time in the face of fierce opposition.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard, whose predecessor was dumped last year after two failed attempts to address climate change, said polluters would pay a yet-to-be-determined fixed price from July 2012, then move to a market-based system within five years.[read]
