Bolivia, among the strongest opponents of the Copenhagen climate accord last year, assailed rich nations at Cancun climate talks on Tuesday but stopped short of threatening to disrupt the two-week conference.Pablo Solon, the Andean country's ambassador to the United Nations, told reporters he was "deeply concerned" by the early course of the November 29 to December 10 talks at the Mexican resort of Cancun and criticized plans for carbon markets.

Mexico is pushing parties at the United Nations climate change meeting to strive for the best possible deal, although even the most ambitious agreement will fall short of what is needed to deal with climate change.Acknowledging that thorny issues such as agreeing to a second round of greenhouse gas emissions cuts under the Kyoto Protocol are unlikely to be resolved at the talks at the beach resort of Cancun, Mexico's top climate change diplomat told reporters that he felt a major step forward could be made.

Jakarta, Kompas - Indonesia akan menggelar sedikitnya lima pertemuan bilateral dan regional di sela Pertemuan Para Pihak ke-16 Kerangka Kerja PBB Konvensi Perubahan Iklim di Meksiko. Upaya itu dilakukan untuk menjamin keberlanjutan upaya Indonesia mengatasi perubahan iklim.Menteri Lingkungan Hidup Gusti Muhammad Hatta di Jakarta, Rabu (1/12), menjelaskan, sulit bagi para pihak mengharapkan sebuah kesepakatan global yang mengikat secara hukum dari Pertemuan Para Pihak ke-16 Kerangka Kerja PBB atas Konvensi Perubahan Iklim (UNFCCC) di Cancun, Meksiko, 29 November-10 Desember 2010. Ia menegaskan upaya Indonesia mengatasi perubahan iklim tidak semata-mata bergantung kepada hasil negosiasi global di Cancun.

Bahkan, ada ide untuk meninggalkan dua raksasa pelepas emisi gas rumah kaca, Amerika Serikat dan China.Secara sains, jika dihitung berapa jumlah emisi gas rumah kaca yang bisa diturunkan dengan kiprah sendiri-sendiri ini, jawabnya: memang tidak (akan) memadai.
