Coal And Gas Replacing German Nuclear Boosts CO2 Bill
17-Mar-2011; 07:27
Date: 17-Mar-11
Country: GERMANY
Author: Vera Eckert
Replacing lost German nuclear power output with coal and gas-fired supply
would require 8 million more CO2 emissions rights, the industry group BDEW
said in a statement on Wednesday.
The group said while the replacements could be technically made, the
number showed the scale of possible additional costs.
One carbon dioxide emissions certificate is equivalent to one tonne of CO2
output and operators must hold it to cover their generation output under
EU emissions trade rules
