People in cities around the Mediterranean including Athens, Rome and Marseilles are likely to suffer most in Europe from ever more scorching heatwaves this century caused by climate change, scientists said on Sunday.The number of heatwaves was likely to surge to almost 3 each summer from 2071-2100 in the Mediterranean region from just one every third year from 1961-1990, it said. Britain's central government will cut its emissions of climate-warming carbon by 10 percent in the next 12 months, while speeding up the wider move to a low-carbon economy, the new UK Prime Minister David Cameron said on Friday.
"I don't want to hear warm words about the environment. I want to see real action. I want this to be the greenest government ever," the Conservative leader of Britain's first coalition government since 1945 told staff at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).[read]

Banda Aceh,(ANTARA News) - Masyarakat adat di kawasan Ulu Masen Aceh, meminta pemerintah memperjelas kompensasi yang akan mereka peroleh sebelum program Pengurangan Emisi dari Deforestasi dan Degradasi atau perdagangan karbon berbasis hutan direalisasikan.
"Tanpa REDD, kami juga tetap menjaga hutan. Yang harus jelas dulu adalah permasalahan hak ulayat," kata Imeum Mukim asal Aceh Jaya , Anwar Ibrahim di Banda Aceh, Sabtu.[read]
