Jakarta has its uniqueness as the capital of Indonesia and city-province.  Located on North Coast of Java Island, at the mouth of 13 different rivers on mouth of Jakarta Bay, is made Jakarta vulnerable in ecological environment because of climate change and the degradation of ecological bearing capacity.

Jakarta is also surrounded by rapidly urbanizing cities, such as Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, Bekasi, which also contributed for commuter.  Despite the current and future of ecological challenges, Jakarta is still obliged to provide basic needs for its people, such as affordable public transportation, clean water and good sanitation, clean air, livable settlement, etc.

Nevertheless, Jakarta has abundant strengths, such as diversity and heterogeneity of its people and activities, Jakarta as the capital city and the center for economic development.  The 2010 national census counted there are 10 millions people in Jakarta. Together with the projected economic growth is 6-7% per year, has produce consequences and exceptions on Jakarta’s spatial and development planning.
